Mikhail Alekseev, Chairman of the Management Board of UniCredit Bank, Awarded Medal of Order for Services to Fatherland, II Degree

Mikhail Alekseev, Chairman of the Management Board, UniCredit Bank, was awarded the medal of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, second degree, as decreed by President of the Russian Federation, 17 July 2019. The award celebrates commitment and dedication in professional endeavors as well as his community service.

The Medal of the Order for Services to the Fatherland is awarded to citizens for outstanding merits in various industries, construction, science, education, healthcare, culture, transport and other areas, as well as for significant contribution to the security of Fatherland and strengthening of the rule of law.

Mikhail Alekseev holding PhD in Economics has worked in the financial sector for more than 30 years. He started his career at the Finance Ministry of the USSR in 1989. Mr. Alekseev took an active part in building a new tax system in Russia by making a weighty contribution to development of the national fiscal legislation. Moreover, Mr. Alekseev was among the originators of the market of securities in Russia, promoting a modern stock market in the country, helping to prepare a bill on the securities market, which formed the basis of the Russian legislation in this sphere, as well as authoring a number of monographs, teaching aids and manuals which boosted the market of securities in Russia.

Since 1992, Mikhail Alekseev has held senior positions in Russian commercial banks. Since 2008, he has been Chairman of the Management Board at UniCredit Bank. Under his supervision, the Bank has made a significant contribution to the development of national economy. UniCredit Bank, being consistently in the top 10 banks by corporate loan portfolio, is also one of the largest lenders to SMEs and individuals.

Mr. Alekseev conducts enlightening and educational activities among young people, fledgling financiers and a wider audience interested in economy and finance. He delivers lectures and participates in public discussions at the Russian Academy of Finance and Higher School of Economics on a regular basis. Under his supervision UniCredit Bank has implemented many cultural and charitable projects. The Bank focuses on culture, patronizing projects that unlock creative potential, particularly in arts and music.
